FISH OF WESTMINSTER, INC IS A 501(C)(3) Organization

From the Board of Directors

FISH of Westminster, Inc

January 1, 2025 – December 31, 2025

FISH of Westminster has served the community of Westminster and South Adams County for over 50 years.  Our primary goal has been, and continues to be, to address food insecurity within our community.  In 2025, we provided 92,420 meals through the food pantry, the homeless outreach program, and Thanksgiving Dinner.

Westminster FISH began in 1970 with the following church partners: Fairview Christian Reform Church, Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Church of the Nazarene, Westminster United Methodist Church, Valley Lutheran Church, and Westminster Presbyterian Church.

The first food pantry opened in 1976.  The Westminster Presbyterian Church food pantry opened in 1996; one of four food pantries operated in conjunction with FISH of Westminster at that time.  Today, it is the only pantry operated in partnership with FISH of Westminster.

Although FISH of Westminster partners with multiple religious organizations, we are a non-denominational organization that serves all individuals, regardless of religious affiliation, within our community

To our donors and partners, we thank you for your continued support!

The Board of Directors,

Paul Langley

Jacqueline Carlson

Melissa Dukes

Carol Mauracher

Cynthia Steinheimer

Programs and Impact

Food Pantry

  • 8,810 people were served from the food pantry (a 1% drop from 2024).
  • 10 meals were provided to each client per month.
  • 90,000 pounds of food were distributed.

 Diaper Program

  • An average of 30 families each month were provided 25-30 diapers and baby wipes per child.

Homeless Program

  • 80 homeless clients were provided lunch and critical supplies such as gloves, socks, underwear, feminine hygiene products, blankets, tarps, sleeping bags, hand warmers, and water each week from volunteers walking Westminster/ South Adams County homeless camps.
  • 270 meals distributed monthly to an average of 120 people or 1,440 clients annually.

 Pet Food

  • Cat and dog food was distributed, upon request, at the food pantry to at least 20 pets per month.
  • The Guardians of Westminster Hills Dog Park held a pet food drive for multiple organizations, including FISH, collecting approximately 1,500 pounds of cat and dog food. The food was repackaged and distributed to our clients.

Front Range Community College TRIO Upward Bound Program at Westminster High School

  • 40+ students were provided snacks and hygiene products throughout the school year.

Thanksgiving Day Lunch

  • 180 meals were served by the end of the event plus an additional 20 meals were provided through the food pantry.
  • 40 people volunteered for 1-6 hours each to make this event happen.
  • 6 organizations, including FISH of Westminster, hosted this annual event.

SNAP

The delay in payment of SNAP benefits in the fall of 2025 had a substantial impact on the food pantry as it did on most pantries.  The number of clients increased in October and November from slightly less than 700 per month to over 900 both months.

Fortunately, both the state and local governments and our friends and neighbors stepped up to provide us with additional funds and food.  Local businesses conducted food drives and neighbors bought extra supplies while grocery shopping, arriving almost daily with bags and boxes of food.  Many first-time donors sent donations to enable us to purchase additional food at local markets during our frequent grocery runs.  Quite a few neighbors reached out to volunteer.  The State of Colorado provided 10 million to state food banks to underwrite the additional expenses incurred by local food pantries.  Our share was over $2,000.  Finally, the City of Westminster publicized the times and locations of local food pantries via the internet and “211.”

As a result, we were able to provide a full box of food to every client who visited  the pantry asking for help during the 3-week delay of SNAP benefits.

Developing the next generation of volunteers

Since before she could walk, one of our “volunteers” went shopping with her grandmother to get diapers and wipes to offer to any of our clients with babies and toddlers.  As she learned to talk, she’d remind her grandmother they needed to buy diapers for the babies.  Once she could walk, she would help by carrying in individual packages of diapers.  At a very young age, she learned the joy of offering a helping hand.

Over the years, we have had a number of young people volunteer with FISH.  On Thanksgiving Day, we were inundated with young people wanting to help.  Many others have helped with deliveries, packing and stocking.  And each year a handful of young people ask to work directly with clients.

It is through working with the next generation, we hope to be able to continue to meet the needs of people in Westminster, as we have for over 50 years.
